WLTCP junior competition has been designed to encourage enjoyment and skill development in young participants.
The competition has been structured to allow for players to miss a week without letting team mates down and join the competition at any stage of the season. The format allows for players to have 3-4 sets (usually first to 4 games) of tennis a week including opportunities to play doubles and singles.
The competition runs on Saturday mornings in terms 4 and 1. The players register on arrival at the courts by 8.15am. Sections are created based on those players who are present on the day. Participants are placed with players of like skill and efforts are made to make each section socially appropriate. Players have the opportunity to progress up the sections depending on results. Each week players rotate partners and opponents from players within their section.
More experienced players will play singles every week though all participants are encouraged to play singles at some stage during the season.
Short tutorials will be held at various stages during the season on rules, match strategies, tiebreakers etc. Our goal is that even beginners will be able to play matches independently at the end of the season.
WLTC junior committee values and appreciates the assistance of parents to assist with scoring in the beginner sections. As children develop they are encouraged to keep score themselves.
Participants are required to be members of WLTC, after that there are no ongoing fees. There are opportunities to play in singles and doubles club championships in age groups.
WLTCP club offers a Hot Shots program for those children who need to start in a modified program. The club also offers avenues of progression though our mid-week twilight and Saturday Aggregate competitions.
Further details on these programs can be found on the website. For further enquiries of information please contact Michelle Flynn on 0412 326 611.
