We held our junior presentation day on Saturday March 1st which incorporated an Intergeneration Day play where junior members could play with a parent/relative/family friend/etc.
This was very well received with a total of 51 pairs playing on the day with a great atmosphere and all courts being utilised.
Club members, Mandy Allen and Kev Callahan stepped in and played with a couple of juniors that did not have a partner.
Following play we had a BBQ cooked by Ian McDonald and served by Mary-Ellen Callahan. We set up a drink station next to the BBQ with cold soft drink and powerade for sale which was extremely popular.
Trophies were handed out on the day for all junior club championships, aggregate winners and the Michelle Hill Spirit of Tennis Award. Michelle was on site on the morning to present the awards. Runner up club championship trophies were replaced with medallions this year to reduce costs and a couple of trophies from previous years were repurposed.

Michelle Hill is shown here presenting her annual awards for the spirit of tennis to two most deserving recipients, Isabelle Bradley and Geordie Bell.
The juniors will have a break this weekend for the long weekend then will return for two more weeks with our last morning of play on 22/3.
I feel the new Junior Committee is off to a strong start this season. We have 26 new standalone junior members and quite a few participating in coaching that will be ready to join competition play next season.
We have also had a couple of juniors transition into Twilight competition with the assistance of Stephen Russell.
A huge thank you to Sam Allen and Mason Scholes for their support during the season. Hopefully we can build further on what we achieved this year, without the distraction of trying to find a new club coach that we were faced with at the start of this season. The junior committee will meet in August to get the ball rolling on next season, hopefully after a successful season we will be able to attract some extra parents to assist us on the Junior Committee.
Thank you to the committee for their support this season in getting the junior competition back on track and in a position to build into the future.

Twilight Teams Competition
|
|
The days are shortening and so the ever popular twilight tennis season at the Wangaratta Lawn, Croquet and Pickleball Club has drawn to a conclusion this week with every team playing off in the finals round.
The competition is so popular that some players, such as Tim Dickinson laying on the court in the foreground like to play in both B and A grade nights. Look carefully to see if you can see the regular players from both Monday and Tuesday night competitions in the two photos.
Both competitions finished this week under lights and a celebratory barbecue. The organisers Sean Ablezej and Steve Russell were once more both very pleased with the spirit of of good social tennis seen throughout the season. They were also pleased to see some new younger players this year.
The next season will commence later in the year around October so start planing your team now they suggest. Please reach out to your friends who are lapsed tennis players – twilight tennis is a great venue to restarting a tennis interest – we can accommodate many more teams and we have emergency lists for both night competitions.

We had another bumper year with over 400 entries received. We are very gratefull to our major sponsors, The Gateway Hotel and Johanson Insurance Brokers, for their support as the prizemoney they provide makes a difference by attracting quality players to the Open grade events.
Next year is the 100th running of the tournament and the committee is in the process of planning for a special presentation of the event.
